Intimacy, embodiment, and the tangle of closeness

Apology, exhibited as part of Echo at Artspace Aotearoa, is a sculptural work by Erika Holm that centres bodily proximity, discomfort, and care. Designed to be activated by two people, the work stages an encounter that is at once tender and unsettling, foregrounding apology as an act that requires closeness rather than distance.

In this walkthrough, Holm speaks to life-casting, material limits, and the quiet intensity of shared space. Filmed on site, the video moves through the work’s tactile details and structural elements, offering a measured entry point into an installation that resists passive viewing.
