Jacqueline Stojanović at Melbourne Art Fair 2026

The artist discusses weaving architecture, memory, and site.

At Melbourne Art Fair 2026, Jacqueline Stojanović presents a body of woven works that operate simultaneously as drawing, structure, and spatial intervention. Developed from a series begun in 2019, the gridded forms reimagine reinforced concrete mesh — typically used to lay foundations — as a temporary loom. Around these industrial armatures, fibres are wound and tensioned, translating the logic of weaving into architectural space.

The works reference the foundational geometries of textile practice while echoing Brutalist and socialist housing blocks in former Yugoslavia and Vietnam — sites connected to the artist’s family history. In this new iteration, Stojanović’s “field drawings” move slightly away from the wall, casting shadows that extend their grid into the surrounding space.

Each fibre is dyed using plants, fruits, and natural materials sourced from the artist’s domestic environment, anchoring the works in lived experience. Recorded on the floor of the fair, this conversation reflects on structure, inheritance, and how ideas of home are held — and re-formed — through material.

Floor Talk is an ongoing series of artist-led conversations recorded at art fairs across Aotearoa, Australia, and the Pacific.
